COLCHESTER'S Louie Westover produced a courageous performance to win the second round of the X30 European Challenge Series in Spain - despite a nasty crash in the heats.

The talented teenager suffered a sprained hand following the collision at the event, in Zuera.

But despite the injury, the 13-year-old still managed to claim victory for his team Fusion at the event, which saw competitors from all over Europe compete.

Westover looked quick in all the practice sessions and translated that into securing pole in qualifying.

But the heats were not quite as straightforward for the Colchester High School pupil, with a P2 in the first, followed by a massive crash in the second.

That resulted in a bent kart and hand injury for Westover and for a while, it looked like his challenge might be over.

But in a heroic comeback and huge effort from the team, he made it out for heat three and secured a respectable fourth, despite being in a lot of pain.

It put the team on P5 for the pre-final, behind team-mate Chris Lulham.

Fantastic team work saw the duo finish P1 and P3, setting us up perfectly on the inside row for the main event.

In a thrilling final the lead changing constantly, with fair and respectful overtaking.

And despite still being clearly in a lot of pain with his hand injury, Westover's determination saw him hold on.

He clinched an amazing win, giving Fusion wins in both rounds and the overall championship.

Westover's next big race is the LGM Championship which takes place at Larkhall near Glasgow, this Sunday.
