AYTHORPE Roding bounced back from their heavy defeat at Rainham with a good result at T Rippon Mid-Essex League division one title-chasers Burnham Sports.

The visitors batted first and had their top four batsmen in good form.

Paul Gravatt struck 52, with Richard Eaton giving his opening partner solid support as he scored 11 in a first-wicket partnership of 61.

Sam Gravatt also made a hal-century with an innings of 63, while skipper Sam Blackman hit 25 and at 168 for four, Aythorpe looked in a healthy position.

However, the Burnham Sports bowling attack collected the next six wickets for just 21 runs to bowl Aythorpe Roding out for 189 in 40 .1 overs.

Burnham's openers put on 32 runs for the first wicket, but a mix of youth and experience from the Aythorpe bowlers caused problems for the home batsmen.

Joe Grant claimed two for 30, Stevens two for 39, Tom Wharton two for 22, Graham Milbank one for 16 and Liam Rosewell one for eight as Burnham Sports were all out for 125 in 33.1 overs in a 64-run victory for the visitors.

Aythorpe Roding host third-placed Brookweald on Saturday (1pm start).
