LEIGH-ON-SEA and Wickford will face off this weekend as both look for their first victory of the new season.

Three games in and both are still searching for their first victories of the new campaign, with just a point separating them in Shepherd Neame Division Two.

Leigh were beaten by previously winless Hutton in their last outing, while Wickford ensured a draw with Harlow Town.

But Leigh captain Leigh Waller believes his side have what it takes to come away with the victory at Chalkwell Park.

“It’s not been the best start,” he said. “It is a bit of luck that is not going our way. We are struggling to get wickets and are losing wickets at the wrong time. But we need to make our own luck.

“It is normally good against them. It is important getting that first win and then we will push on and we come into our own in the 50-over game.

“We should have a fully fit squad and we will give it our all.”

Old Southendian & Southchurch will host the unbeaten Gidea Park & Romford as they look to bounce back from a first defeat of the season last weekend.

The Old Boys were edged out by just 12 runs against Oakfield Parkonians, but captain Aaron Lucas knows victory tomorrow will see his side leapfrog their opponents in the standings.

Lucas admitted his frustration that a number of the batsmen make positive starts to their innings before falling short of making a big total.

And they will be wary of Gidea Park, who ended Horndon-on-the-Hill’s unbeaten start in style last time out with an eight-wicket win.

Horndon welcome Harlow Town this, looking to respond to that setback against the division’s bottom side.
