THERE were mixed fortunes for Braintree Golf Club's teams in two Essex competitions, with victory in the Leslie Wood Plate but defeat in the Norman Plum.

In the Leslie Wood, Braintree beat Colne Valley 4-1 at home but lost by the same score away, leaving the aggregate 5-5. However, Braintree edged through 27-19 on holes won.

In the Norman Plum, Braintree won 2-1 at home against Canons Brook but lost 3-0 away, going out of the competition 4-2.

Meanwhile, a round of nett 62 off a handicap of 16 earned Robert Kieffer victory in the Silver Jubilee order of merit competition at Stisted.

He finished six strokes ahead of David Bright (14) and Alan Simmons (9), with Bright finishing runner-up on countback.

High handicappers held sway in the Men’s Midweek Stableford and in the ladies’ Spring Meeting.

Stephen Denton won the former with 38 points off a handicap of 22, finishing three points ahead of runner-up John Stevens (21), with Chris Hindley (24) third with 33.

In the ladies’ event, Alison Holborn (35) was a clear winner with 38 points, three more than runner-up Debra Blundell (30) with Janet White (19) third on 34.
