BOCKING Boules were edged out by Billericay U3A B, who went second in the Essex Invitation Petanque League table with their victory.
Pat Brown, Pam and David Adams took the triples 13-8 for Bocking Boules, but league newcomers Billericay claimed the pairs 13-5 and singles 13-2.
Bocking Spinners had joy, though, with a 2-1 win over Little Totham Swan.
Richard Tite, Malcolm Smith and Ian Ruffle took the triples 13-10 in a hard-fought game, before Smith and Cristina Knights took the win with a pairs success but Ruffle was beaten 13-9 in the singles.
After three weeks of the summer season, Blackwater U3A have become the third team to head the table after a 3-0 win at Thorley, while the first game for Three Elms B saw an easy 3-0 win over their A team.
