WIVENHOE TOWN boss Mo Osman says everyone at the club should be proud of the Dragons’ championship-winning season.

The side ended their first division campaign with a 2-1 success at home to Needham Market Reserves, fighting back from behind thanks to goals from Ben Lampon and Luke Goldie-McSorley.

It left them three points clear of runners-up Ely City, who finished with a 1-0 victory at home to HALSTEAD TOWN.

And that was a result that meant the Humbugs just missed out on promotion, finishing five points behind third-placed Great Yarmouth.

“I’m proud of the whole club – from the players and management to the committee members and supporters,” said delighted boss Osman.

“We’ve achieved this together and it hasn’t been about one person or one thing.

“We’ve got things right on and off the pitch and everyone has pulled together to work towards one common goal.

“Getting promotion was always our top priority and now we’ve won the title, too.

“We’ve found different ways of winning, which will serve us well in the future, and our character and togetherness have earned us points on days when we might not always have deserved it.

“The boys have grown in confidence, as players and as people, and together we’ve had an excellent season.

“We’ll enjoy it, but we’re already planning and preparing for next season, to make sure we give a better account of ourselves than the last time we were in the premier division.”

Wivenhoe, who were relegated from the top flight last season, started the day three points clear of their rivals and boasting a much superior goal difference.

However, Osman said that while the bubbly was on ice, it was pleasing to finally, officially get over the line and end the season on a winning note.

“We always knew our goal difference was effectively worth an extra point,” he said.

“It was highly likely we were going to finish top and it would have taken a major disaster for our positions to swap.

“But it was still important that we didn’t go into the match in celebration mode.

“We had to put that on hold until afterwards and make sure we got the job done, just to be sure.

“Besides, we didn’t want to win the league on goal difference.

“We wanted to finish with a win and on a high note, after what was a draining week, both physically and mentally.”

Elsewhere in division one, BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES finished 11th after a 4-1 defeat against King’s Lynn Reserves.

In the premier division, STANWAY ROVERS were already assured of third spot but unable to catch runners-up Godmanchester Rovers.

However, Angelo Harrop’s side ended their campaign with brilliant a 1-0 win at home to champions Norwich United.

Sean Bartlett netted the winner in a game where the hosts had two players sent off.

It was only Norwich's fourth league defeat of the season.

FC CLACTON finished with back-to-back home wins, following up Tuesday’s victory against Thetford with a 4-0 success against Gorleston.

The Seasiders finished a brilliant tenth in the table and neighbours BRANTHAM ATHLETIC 11th, after the Imps bowed out with a 3-0 defeat at home to Saffron Walden Town.

Karl Andrade and Aaron Condon both scored twice for the Seasiders.
