WIVENHOE TOWN took another stride towards promotion – and possibly the Thurlow Nunn League first division title – with a 2-0 victory at home to AFC Sudbury Reserves.

Adam Hampson netted both goals during the first half of Friday’s contest at the Maple Tree Cars Stadium.

Mo Osman’s side now have won 19 of their 21 games, drawing the other two, and, prior to Saturday’s games, the victory moved them a dozen points clear of second-placed Ely City.

Only a spectacular collapse would see them fall outside the top-three promotion places.

And it would take a brave man to bet against the club going on to win the first division title.

“It was a good, hard-working performance against a very fit, lively Sudbury side,” said player-assistant boss Ray Turner.

Hampson broke the deadlock after rounding the keeper and slotting home.

His second followed from a corner, after good work from both Tim Dennis and Turner.

Miguel Nydam was sent off early in the second half but, thankfully, the numerical disadvantage did not have any bearing on the final score.
