Despite finishing his weekend on the podium in Bahrain, Alex Lynn admitted to feeling disappointed with his latest GP2 Series outing.

The 22-year-old racing driver from Dunmow finished third in the sprint race at the Sakhir circuit, but said problems with managing tyre wear in his DAMS Racing car had made it a “tough weekend”.

It had been a similar story in the opening feature race, when Lynn could only nurse his car to an eighth-place finish after starting from fourth on the grid as he also battled against degrading rubber on his tyres.

That placed him in pole position for the following sprint race, however, he quickly became aware that he would face a battle to hold on for a third victory of the year.

In the end Lynn brought his car home third behind Mitch Evans and new GP2 champion Stoffel Vandoorne.

The Essex driver said: “It was a really disappointing race to be honest.

“Starting from pole, I led for a reasonable amount of time, but I struggled a lot on the tyres and there was not much I could do.

“It’s quite disappointing.

“Right from the first corner, you have to start managing your tyres.

“It’s disappointing because the car balance was really good, but I was struggling too much with the tyre degradation.

“The feature race was a similar story.

“It’s been a tough weekend – lots to learn from.”

With Lynn taking 16 points from his trip to Bahrain and Evans gaining 30, the Essex man slipped behind the New Zealander in the championship standings as he dropped from fifth to sixth.
