The voluntary sports work of two Ramsey Academy pupils has been recognised at local and county-wide awards.

Lewis Brennan was named as the winner in the Young Community Volunteer category at the recent Active Braintree 2015 Sport Awards, while Emma Gooden was highly commended in the same category.

And there has been further delight for Brennan as he has subsequently been nominated in the Young Volunteer section of the Active Essex Sports Awards that are being held in Colchester next month.

Brennan has earned his twin honour for his work in supporting the Ramsey Academy PE department in his spare time alongside completing GCSE studies.

He plans and delivers a weekly football training session to younger students and manages the year seven football team as well as working to support sports activities in primary schools.

Like Brennan, Gooden, who is a year 11 student and a sports captain for her house within the Halstead school, also supports the PE department at Ramsey Academy and volunteers to support a variety of sports, including the delivery of a weekly netball session.

She also helps to teach the younger students and officiates games.

The Active Essex Sports Awards will be held at the Weston Homes Community Stadium in Colchester on December 2.
