Time is running out to nominate contenders for this year’s Sports Personality of the Year in the Braintree District.

The second Active Braintree Sports Awards will be held at the College of Braintree on November 2 and will look to build on the success of the inaugural ceremony last year when Witham Swimming Club’s Hannah Ueckermann scooped the first-ever top award.

Now it’s time to honour the last 12 months’ achievements, but the cut-off is today for clubs, individuals and schools across Halstead and the surrounding areas to enter their nominations.

Categories up for awards are Sports Personality of the Year, Young Sports Personality, Disabled Sports Personality, Unsung Hero, Young Community Volunteer, School or College of the Year, Community Club of the Year and Coach of the Year.

Councillor Joanne Beavis, Braintree Council cabinet member for health and communities, said: “Sport and physical exercise is so important for the health and well-being of our residents.

“I want to hear all the fantastic examples of talent, commitment and determination so we can celebrate those who are already involved in community sport but also encourage those who aren’t.”
