CONFIDENT Colchester and East Essex captain Andrew Kennedy believes his side can continue their Twenty20 adventure.

The Castle Park cricketers are preparing for Sunday’s regional finals – the last 32 – after winning the Essex finals, at Billericay.

They will play the winners of the Home Counties competition – Gerrards Cross – with the winners then facing a showdown against the winners of the Middlesex (TBC) and Herts (Sawbridgeworth) contest.

All matches are taking place at Ealing Cricket Club.

If they emerge through both matches, they would face the thrilling prospect of a national quarter-final at Castle Park on Sunday, August 16.

“It’s a very exciting thought and something we’re all looking forward to,” said Kennedy.

“We certainly believe we can go all the way and we’ll go there feeling confident.

“We’re doing well in the league and the boys did really well in the Essex finals. To be honest, we didn’t really have a challenge in the group stage.

“The Essex Finals Day was our first real challenge and it was a good feeling to knuckle down and come through it.

“Our batting held up well but we bowled and fielded fantastically and that really made the difference.

“We’ll have an unchanged team and if we play like we did that day, I believe we’ll have every chance.”

Colchester defeated South Woodford by 31 runs in their Essex semi-final, before going on to sink Chelmsford by 37 runs.

That secured their place in this weekend’s regional showpiece.

“T20 cricket is always a bit different and a real spectacle,” added Kennedy, one of three surviving players from the club’s last Essex T20 success, in 2008.

“It’s changed the sport dramatically.

“We were struggling in the Essex final but then turned it round to continue our adventure in the competition and hopefully we can keep the dream alive on Sunday.”
