Halstead Cricket Club coach Phil Toogood admits the opening half of the season has been “slightly disappointing” but sees good things ahead for the team if they learn from mistakes made in their first 11 games.
Having stepped back into the top flight of the Marshall Hatchick Two Championship this year, Halstead have reached the mid-point of the division one season sitting ninth in the division one table.
They ended the first half with a five-wicket defeat by Hadleigh and even though it was a better display than in the dismal performance against Coggeshall the week before, Toogood said there are still lessons that need to be learned.
“How would I assess the half way stage of the season?” he said.
“In truth, slightly disappointing, as we could have comfortably won another three games.
“But I will say that the squad have been a pleasure to manage and there are good things around the corner if these lads work hard and stick together.
“I said in our post match meeting (after the Hadleigh game) that it’s only doom and gloom if we don’t learn from our mistakes and errors of judgement.
“If we learn and put in the effort and the corrective measures then we shouldn’t have a problem."
