MARY King reigned at Maldon Golf Club’s Ladies’ Captain’s Day.

Members enjoyed a fine morning’s golf followed by lunch and the prize giving.

The format of the day was an 18-hole singles stableford competition and the winner with a score of 30 points was King.

Second place went to Laura Reilly with 26 and Margaret Caviel was third with 25.

The prize for the best front nine went to Shirley Chittenden with 15 while Jenny Chamberlain claimed the prize for the back nine with the same score.

The mystery holes prize went to Eileen Yems and the putting prize went to Margaret Phillips.

On Sunday, the men’s section competed in a full handicap medal for the President’s Cup. This is a trophy that was first contested in 2011 and designed to recognise the enormous contribution to the welfare of the club made by its President Mrs R M (Tilly) Pink CBE and her late husband Leslie.

To maximise participation, this competition traditionally has both an 8am and a 1.30pm start.

From a field of 49, the winner this year with a score of nett 68 was club trustee and long-standing member Colin Gooday (80-12-68).

Second place went to immediate past captain Pete Hawkins (76-5-71) on countback from Aaron Dickson (88-17-71).

Mike Kempen, Richard Thomas, Ian Keen and Peter Scances secured the places from fouth to seventh respectively, with a countback needed to determine the result after all four players shot a net 72.

The morning prize for nearest the pin, with the closest second shot to the par four sixth/15th hole, was won by Peter Scanes.

The afternoon prize went to Pete Hawkins.

Maldon’s Seniors’ section held their guest day on June 24.

This was played as an 18 hole, better ball stableford competition.

First place went to Chris Pratt and his guest Bob Saich with 42 points, on countback from Mike Worden and his guest Paul Smith.

Third place went to Tony Broom and his guest Pat Ferry with 39.

The raffle raised £177 for the seniors’ captain Ray Hollington’s charity, which is the children’s ward at Broomfield Hospital.
