NICK Browne is keen to continue his stunning pre-season form when Essex start their County Championship campaign at home to Kent on Sunday.

The 24-year-old scored a century in both innings against Cardiff MCCU in Essex’s final pre-season friendly.

And he now wants to keep on impressing, in all formats of the game this season.

“All runs are good runs no matter what match you’re playing in and I was particularly pleased with the second hundred because I played it more like a one day innings,” said Browne.

“I don’t want to be pigeon holed as a four day player and that’s something I have been working on during the winter.

“My natural game is probably to play a few more shots with a higher strike ratio and it’s certainly a target of mine to do well in all formats this season so hopefully that’s something I will be able to do.”

But, to begin with, Browne will have to make do with the County Championship.

The left handed batsman feels it is imperative Essex get off to a good start as they bid to secure promotion out of Division Two after narrowly missing out last time around.

And he believes an improved pre-season schedule will enable them to shine in the opening stages of the season.

“Pre-season has been really good, it’s been really well organised and better than before,” said Browne.

“We’ve been together for longer and we’ve played on good wickets too which has certainly helped us.

“I think that will help us make a good start and it’s important we do that too.

“We’re obviously not going to panic if we don’t win but we’ve worked hard and certainly want to start the season with a good result for us then be able to build on.”
