Josh Wells is looking forward to leading Halstead Cricket Club’s return to the top flight of the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship.
The club were promoted from division two after a successful season under the stewardship of Charlie Douglas-Hughes last year, but Wells has taken the reins for this camapign, which starts with a home game against Worlington today.
The 20-year-old thinks he may be the youngest player to have ever captained at Star Stile and is excited about the challenge ahead.
He said: “I captained my old school team and have captained Halstead’s Sunday team for the last two years so it’s not something that’s totally new to me.
“I also took the role last year a few times when Charlie wasn’t available, so I don’t think it will be too difficult for me to jump in this year.
“It’s certainly something I’m looking forward to and I think I’m the youngest captain that the club has ever had.
“It’s somthing I’ve always wanted to do and to be the official club captain is very exciting.”
