Witham Town manager Garry Kimble is urging his players to make sure there is something to fight for on the last day of the season.

Following last weekend’s 3-0 defeat by fellow relegation strugglers Tonbridge Angels, Witham’s place in the Ryman League premier division is hanging in the balance and they are relying on other sides to slip up if they are to avoid the trapdoor back into division one north.

Town sit five points adrift of safety and host Metropolitan Police at the Village Glass Stadium tomorrow (kick-off 3pm) in their penultimate game of the season.

They will be looking for other sides just above them to slip up, however, whatever happens elsewhere will be academic if Witham fail to win themselves.

So Kimble wants to make sure there is something still to fight for when they head to Enfield in their last outing of the campaign the following weekend.

“We have to at least take it to the final game so we have to win against Met Police,” he said.

“Then we’ll have to beat Enfield and with both of them going for the play-offs, it will be tough.

“The one thing is that if we beat Met Police and Enfield have already booked their place in the play-offs then they may rest some players and that may play in our favour.

“But it’s going to be a tall order whatever.

“We’ve thrown it away more than having it taken away from us.

“Silly mistakes and late goals in both halves mean we’ve conceded 80 now this year.

“That’s a collective thing.

“It’s not the defence or keeper, it’s all over the pitch and everyone is to blame “We must win on Saturday – if we don’t then we’re down whatever happens elsewhere."
