Colchester United boss Tony Humes has heaped praise on stand-in captain Chris Porter after the striker's impressive display against Barnsley.
Porter skippered the U's for the first time in the absence of David Fox and helped lead them to a vital 3-1 victory over the Tykes.
The experienced forward has impressed since joining Colchester from League One rivals Sheffield United last January and boss Humes has been delighted with his influence - both on and off the pitch.
Humes said: “I thought that Chris was great - he’s a fantastic pro and he’s a senior one out there.
“Since he’s come into the club he’s been good for the young players around him.
“He’s a very steady, solid character and I thought he was terrific.
“He led the line really well especially in the first half when he was doing it on his own for a long time.
“He worked his socks off in the second half too and showed his qualities - I thought he was fantastic.
“He’s a great lad and a great player to have at the club."
