Braintree Football Club dropped their first points of the season in the Braintree Open Darts League ladies’ competition following a draw with the Queen’s Head.

The pairs and triples that followed all went the Queen’s way and even though the Football Club took the singles honours after a win for Matt Baker in the final game, it was the visitors who claimed the overall match victory.

Bockings ladies won their tie against Legends, who responded with a 2-1 win in the pairs, a win in the triples and a 7-0 singles success for overall victory.

Cressing had ladies and triples draws against Wethersfield A, who took the pairs 3-0, but the hosts won the first five singles to wrap up the win in that competition before wins for Wethersfield’s Barry Gilbey and Andi Thomas in the final two games ensured an overall draw.

Wethersfield B opened with a 3-0 win in the pairs against the Welsh Princess, who came back to win the triples.

Having seen it level after the opening two games, wins for Brendan Hand and Alan Dewar put the Welsh ahead in the singles and they claimed the singles win with a victory for Bruce Mawdsley, but successes for Wethersfield’s Barry Jaggo and Paul Knights left overall honours even.

The Swan hosted the Eagle and the away team found it difficult to find their rhythm, losing the pairs 3-0 and the triples before only managing a solitary win, by Paul Little, in the singles.

The Retreat lost their ladies match to visiting Notley Sports but a 2-1 win in the pairs and a win in the triples saw the hosts hold overall match advantage going into the singles.

Notley’s Stewart Thorogood pulled one back for Notley in the opening game but wins for the Retreat in the next three meant they had the overall match result secured and successes for Steve O’Neil and Dave Benfield gave the singles to the hosts as well.

Bocking’s Jimmy Kiddle hit a 120 out shot and O’Neil, Mick Cain, Little and Leigh Bentley all hit 180s.
