LIGHT winds denied Hannah Stodel a chance of challenging for a medal in Miami.

The Mersea Island sailor was competing in the ISAF Sailing World Cup event in Biscayne Bay.

In the Paralympic sonar class, Stodel, along with John Robertson and Steve Thomas, headed into yesterday’s final medal race in fourth place.

However, racing proved impossible as what little breeze there was early in the day died off.

The Sonar trio finished just a point outside of the medal positions after a false start penalty saw them drop to fourth on Thursday.

Fellow Mersea sailor Saskia Clark, along with helm Hannah Mills, is competing in the women’s 470 class.

Clark and Mills head into today’s medal race lying in second place after the light winds prevented any racing on Friday.

The London 2012 Olympic silver medallists are led by the New Zealand pairing that denied them the gold, Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie.
