Colchester Swimming Club were victorious by a single point in the final round of the National Arena Swimming League premier division.

They won in the third round after securing 264 points at Hertfordshire Sport Village. Colchester’s nine to 11 freestyle relay team of Eloise Sneddon, Ciara Wookey, Sophie Freeman and Niamh Higgins were second.

And there were also runners-up spots for the boys’ 13-and-under medley relay team of Jamie Coles, Alex Tinnion, Jack Bowyer and Alex Williamson and girls’ 15-and-under girls’ freestyle team of Martha Duley, Ellie Duley, Chloe Rudkin and Isabella Tanenbaum.

Colchester claimed third-place finishes in the boys’ 15-and-under relay (Spencer Prior, Arran Francis, Tom Grieve and Rory Bennett) and ladies’ open medley relay (Martha Duley, Philippa Davenall, Ellie Duley and Kaythi Aung).

In the individual races, Eloise Sneddon claimed a personal best (PB) finishing third in the girls’ 10/11 backstroke, before Naythan Aung secured Colchester’s first win in the boys’ 10/11 backstroke.

Jamie Coles set a new PB finishing second in the boys’ 13-and-under breaststroke and Martha Duley claimed a win in the girls’ 15-and-under backstroke. Spencer Prior set a new PB in both the 15-and-under backstroke and breaststroke races, as did Sophie Freeman for her 50m fly (34.04 seconds). Nathan Aung also claimed a PB in the same event for 11-and-under boys.

Olivia Norman won her girls 13-and-under backstroke in a PB, while Ellie Duley swam a two-second PB in the girls’ 15-and-under 100m fly (one minute 06.40s).

Jack Howlett stepped up to swim the Men’s Open 100m backstroke in a PB of 1.03.36.

And strong finishes by Wookey (PB), William Pestell, Kalya Aung, Jack Bowyer (PB) and Martha Duley helped maintain Colchester’s momentum.

Colchester had edged their way to first place as the final series of relay events began.

Their girls’ 9/11 medley replay team of Wookey, Freeman, Sneddon and Higgins were third.

The boys’ 9/11 medley relay of William Pestell, Hardy, Gabby Annis and Naythan Aung won.

The girls’ 15-and-under medley relay of Martha Duley, Isabella Tanenbaum Ellie Duley and Kayla Aung claimed another win.

And a third-place finish from the 15-and-under boys’ medley relay team of Spencer Prior, Arran Francis, Rory Bennett and Tom Grieve helped seal a narrow overall victory.
