Braintree Town manager Alan Devonshire hit back at his team’s critics as they ended two long waits with an important win against Wrexham.
The Iron’s goal drought and even longer wait for a Vanarama Conference Premier win were concluded with a 1-0 win against Wrexham at the Miles Smith Stadium.
Braintree came into the game on the back of a run of ten winless league games – the last six of which had been without the Iron troubling the scoresheet.
However, Charlie Strutton’s 26th-minute strike ended a 620-minute wait for a league goal and separated the two teams.
In the end, it was a thoroughly merited win for Devonshire’s side and the Iron boss hit back at those who have criticised his players’ application during their barren run.
While he didn’t want to say where it had come from, he said anyone looking to criticise his team needed to look at the injuries they’ve had to endure recently.
“We played well and totally deserved it against Wrexham,” he said.
“We haven’t had the rub of the green lately and have had injuries so there have been reasons for our form and people need to get their heads out of their backsides and get into reality.”
