Colchester United manager Tony Humes says playing league football was the main reason behind Dan Holman's loan move to Wrexham.
The U's striker has joined the Conference Premier side on a month's loan and is set to make his debut against Chester City tonight.
Holman has found his first-team opportunities limited after joining them from Braintree Town, this summer.
And Humes feels that playing competitive football with the Reds was a priority for the forward, rather than playing in the Professional Development Under-21 League.
Humes said: “We’ve got a lot of young players coming through playing under-21 football and I didn’t think it was right for Dan to get sharpness in that kind of football.
“We felt league football was the priority and I know from previous experience that Wrexham is a good place to go and play.
“As soon as I mentioned it to Dan he had no doubts that he wanted to go and play some football.”
