Garry Kimble said he will look to make changes to his Witham Town side when they look to bounce back tonight from their first defeat in the Ryman League premier division.

Witham host Wingate and Finchley at the Village Glass Stadium on the back of a 2-0 defeat at VCD Athletic on Saturday.

That was their first loss since stepping up to the premier division and boss Kimble is demanding better from his players.

He said: “They have to stand up and be counted and make sure they aren’t just going through the motions.

“You can’t afford to have five or six players having off days at this level.

“I was most disappointed with the manner of the defeat and I’ll look to change personnel for the Wingate and Finchley game.

“People coming in have to show that they want the shirt.

“The desire is there, but some of them looked very tired and leggy.

“That is a worry at this stage of the season.

“I know we’ve played Saturday-Tuesday for the past few weeks, but maybe we need to change the personnel.

“Not wholesale changes, but I will be bringing in a couple.

“I may also look to bring in a couple of new signings to bolster the squad after what I saw at VCD.”

Kimble said he had no injury concerns for the game against Wingate, but it kicks off a testing run of fixtures for his team and he wants to see them show the belief they need to stay in the premier division.

He said: “We’ve got some tough games coming up as Wingate are top three, Billericay are going well and we’ve then got (leaders) Margate.

“We’ll really see if the team have the character to bounce back and we’ll be making sure they aren’t just going through the motions.

“We’re not panicking but people need to know the reality of what it takes to stay in this league.”
