Alex Lynn won’t mind a bit of wet weather if the Spa-Francorchamps circuit lives up to its reputation as the GP3 Series returns this weekend after a four-week break.

The racing driver from Dunmow will return to track duty with a 31-point lead at the top of the GP3 standings, with the round in Belgium one of only four remaining in the 2014 championship.

Consistency has been the key to Lynn’s success so far as he has picked up points at every round so far as the Red Bull Junior driver continues to try to impress Formula One team bosses.

The Spa circuit is one that the 20-year-old rising Essex star enjoys and with the Belgian venue notorious for providing drivers with rainy conditions to deal with, he is anticipating that wet tyres may be needed at some point over the weekend.

Lynn, who is driving for the Carlin team in GP3 this year, said: “Obviously Spa is one of the greatest tracks in the world – it doesn’t need much bigging up “It looks fantastic and it is fantastic.

“All the corners are amazing and most are flowing and high speed.

“The rain factor depends on what situation you’re in.

“If you’ve been quick all weekend and you’re on pole you probably don’t want to have any change, but if you’re struggling you don’t mind a bit of weather to even things up.

“It’s so difficult to call which way the weather will go.

“I would be excited if it’s a bit of a mixed weekend, I usually like those conditions.”

GP3 qualifying is due to take place at Spa at 8.45am (British time) on Saturday, with the first feature race at 4.20pm that day and race two at 8.25am on Sunday.
