OLD Southendian & Southchurch will look to get back on track when they host Old Brentwoods tomorrow.
The Old Boys were level on points with Stanford le Hope at the top of the Division Three table heading into their crunch match last Saturday, which Stanford won by seven wickets.
But Aaron Lucas’ team, who dropped to third, are determined to maintain the pressure on leaders Stanford and second-placed Harlow Town against fourth-placed Brentwoods.
“We have not played Old Brentwoods yet this year and it's going to be game where we must reverse results to keep putting the pressure on the top two. Hopefully one of them will slip up,” said Lucas.
“But we will keep plugging away and hope that when we play Harlow Town in our final game of the season that we are still in the promotion mix.”
Brentwoods were one of the four teams in the running for promotion but have faded and are now 37 points adrift of Southendian.
And Lucas is calling on his team to play to their best in order to keep pace with the top two.
“We have been very clinical against other teams in the division,” he said.
“But with the three games we have had against teams with a bit of quality, they have been close but we have not had enough quality to get over the line.”
Stanford captain Lee Knight is hoping after back-to-back wins over Southendian and Harlow Town that his team do not falter at basement club Epping.
“It’s possibly going to be tricky after playing two top of the table teams to go to a bottom-of-the-table team,” Knight said. “But if we play as we have been then I would expect us to beat them.”
Stanford are 12 points clear of Harlow Town, who travel to sixth-placed Oakfield Parkonians tomorrow, but Knight is taking nothing for granted.
“We are taking it one game at a time because this league can be a bit unpredictable,” he added.
“We have four games left and if we get good results in them then we should be promoted.
“It’s good to have momentum going into those games and we would like to win our next two before we have a blank weekend.”
Ninth-placed Benfleet do not have a game tomorrow.
