Braintree Town have completed the signing of defender Mitch Brundle.

The 19-year-old has impressed for the Iron during pre-season and agreed a one-year deal with the club following their 2-0 defeat by a West Ham development side at the Amlin Stadium tonight.

He played the full 90 minutes of that game, firstly in the centre of midfield and then at centre-half for the final 30 minutes of the game, but he has also featured at full-back during the Iron's summer fixtures.

It is well-known that boss Alan Devonshire is looking to bring in another central defender and he admitted that he will look closer at Brundle when they head to Wealdstone for a pre-season fixture on Saturday to see if he could fill that role.

Devonshire said: "He’s a good player, who is only 19 and has a lot of potential.

“He could be the answer we’re looking for at the back and I’ll probably play him in there on Saturday.

“He’s been with us a while and I like the kid.”

Brundle was released by Bristol City at the end of last season and played seven games in League Two for Cheltenham Town during a loan spell there from the Robins earlier this year.
