Excitement is building for Braintree Velo Cycling Club members as they prepare for the world’s biggest cycle race to touch down in their back yard.

The Tour de France will come racing through Essex on Monday afternoon and Braintree Velo riders know probably better than anyone what lies in store for the cream of the world’s pro peleton.

The roads that the Tour will come along through Uttlesford and Braintree districts are regular routes that they use for training and club rides and Braintree Velo general secretary Chris Broadway (pictured right) is predicting the racing to be fast and furious.

“These are roads that we use all the time and we know them very well,” he said.

“It will be fast that’s for sure, but it won’t be much of a challenge to the professional guys.

“In fact it’s a typical sprinter’s day.”
