Fight for places hots up at U's after triple signing

Joe Dunne expects competition for places to hot up at Colchester United after making a triple swoop.

The U’s have signed former Southend United right-back Sean Clohessy, following his departure from Kilmarnock.

They have also brought in left-back Ben Gordon, who played his football at Ross County last season and is a former Chelsea youngster.

In addition, goalkeeper Chris Lewington has joined the U’s after he left League Two side Dagenham and Redbridge in May.

All three players have signed two-year deals with Colchester.

Dunne said: “I’m delighted with all three signings and it gives me the competition early on, rather than further down the line.

“I’m happy with the squad and I’m happy with the players that we’ve got."

“I’m happy with the squad and I’m happy with the players that we’ve got." says JD. I read that as saying, we don't need another striker to replace Morrison. Hence it will be more of the same with another sad shortage of goals again this next season!

We've only signed a RB, LB & back up keeper as replacements for players that turned down contracts with us in the summer.
I really don't see this as competition for places.
Would love to see a couple of attack minded players coming in as well, but I really can't see it happening.

There are plenty of variables that effect our goal scoring abilities, to simply state that no addition of a striker = shortage of goals is misguided.

Take for example if we were to sign Clive Platt or any other mediocre striker, would they then be the resolution to our goal problem ?

In my eyes, our problem is not our lack of resources but the way in which they are applied, often our attacking options do not get into the box, and our killer balls in the final third need to be better.

This is something i am hoping will be addressed in pre season although i think it also relies on confidence and trust.

Well its the Managers job on the line.
August is a heavy month and a first round exit to Charlton is out of the question.
So if hes happy with the players-good.
If the results are bad-its goodbye Joe.

I know Freddy Eastwood is an Ex-Southend United player but he is on a free, we all know he can put them away at this level.
