Colchester United are hoping to announce the arrival of at least two new signings today.

U’s boss Joe Dunne has been working hard over the summer in his attempts to bolster his squad, in readiness for the forthcoming 2014-15 season.

And now it appears he is on the verge of bringing in fresh faces, with Colchester optimistic that the new arrivals will be able to join in with full pre-season training this week.

The U’s have been looking for replacements for right-back Brian Wilson, who has moved to Oldham Athletic and left-back Ryan Dickson, who quit Colchester to join Crawley Town earlier this month.

Colchester are also on the lookout for a new goalkeeper, after Mark Cousins left to join Dagenham and Redbridge.

And Dunne says he is close to making signings in his preferred positions, in readiness for the big kick-off on August 9.

Dunne said: “I’m close to signing players in positions that I think are key for us, this year.

“I’ve always said it’s very important that I get what I want in certain positions.

“We have to fill the positions where we have lost players since last season.

“Competition for places is key for us in every position.”
