Lua Lua move is not ruled out

Halstead Gazette: Happy homecoming - could Lomana Lua Lua, seen here playing for Blackpool in 2012, make a welcome return to Colchester United this summer? Happy homecoming - could Lomana Lua Lua, seen here playing for Blackpool in 2012, make a welcome return to Colchester United this summer?

Joe Dunne has refused to rule out a move to bring fans’ favourite Lomana Lua Lua back to Colchester United.

The U’s boss has stressed he has not made any official approach to reunite the exciting attacker with the U’s this summer.

But Dunne has always remained in contact with his former team-mate, who rose to prominence at Colchester between 1998 and 2000.

Lua Lua, 33, who is currently contracted to Turkish club Rizespor, fuelled speculation of a return to former club Colchester with a recent Twitter post.

In response to a U’s fan, he tweeted: “I’m coming back soon and it will be a dream come true for me #colu”.

Lomana always promised that he would try to return to Colchester United to see his professional career out in what he would consider to be his final season, as a 'thank-you' to the U's for providing him with a prolific career which started as a raw youngster at Col U. He would be the one player that would bolster crowds because whenever he took to the field you never knew what might happen - he was outstanding and no opposition defenders had any answer to his wizadry. Would be great to see him return. Up the U's!

Would love to see him back here.
At this level he would still have lots to offer, he may have slowed down but his mesmerising skills will still be there for all to see, plus he can score goals.

After watching some Turkish football in the season just gone Lua Lua would need a very good pre-season and possibly some dietary tips as he looked quite a bit overweight.

We cannot have players for sentimental reasons, we need players with hunger and desire to succeed not someone wishing to play out time at the end of their career.

If we did sign him it should be on a pay as you play deal

Couldn't agree more. It has Sheringham/Clinton Morrison written all over it.

It would definitely be a boost. Not sure if he would have the pace anymore, but he always seemed to see moves which nobody else could. Sadly, most of his team-mates couldn't see them either, but his presence would get the crowds in and buzzing!

Totally agree, we've been down this road before with Sheringham & Morrison, and look how they turned out. I think that Bonne should be given a chance up front next season, think he has bags of goals in him.

Would bring back some great memories, but doesn't really fit with the youth ideology. Sentimentality aside, this would be a bit of a waste of the wage budget.....its needed in other areas and I think Macca has earned the right to be considered on a more regular basis for the 1st team.

You never know, it did for steve mcgavin, tony adcock and scott mcgleish, at 33 could be fine and would definitely add interest to the coming season.

I never rated Vernon and do you think Cureton still has it at his age?

Imagine if all of those Championship players we had never left... We just missed out on Premier League play-offs with them...

Vernon, in my opinion was way ahead of the players around him, never got the service his play deserved, then had the crowd on his back. Good player.

An interesting player that done well for Blackpool a couple of seasons ago. With the wage structure set out, only Dunne and Cowling could answer if he would be a good signing.

Personally, if he is fit and cheap enough, I think he would fit into our fast unpredictable team.

God no thanks, yes he was great first time round, but how much will he demand in wages? don't think we can afford him, we are skint no money what so ever. would rather have a young kid who wants to prove himself.
