A BEACH volunteer group has installed a new boat planter at the site where war planes crashed.

Friends of Concord Beach help look after one and a half miles of Canvey's seafront.

The group has installed a boat planted with flowers in the B17 Memorial Field at The Point, Canvey.

More than 100 spring bulbs have been planted in the boat along with winter pansies and cyclamen.

A spokesman said: "Our grateful thanks to the Island Yacht Club for getting us the boat and helping to install it."

The land off Beveland Road, Canvey, is known as the B17 Memorial Ground, in memory of eleven airmen killed when two B17 bombers collided and crashed in the Thames, off Canvey Point in the Second World War.
