Fire crews were called to a fire at a flat earlier today.
The fire happened at 9.25am at Clay Hill, Basildon, and on arrival firefighters reported that the fire was in the living room.
Fire fighters worked to quickly extinguish it by 9.40am and then used positive pressure ventilation (ppv) fans to clear the smoke.
The flat has suffered some smoke and heat damage.
An investigation into the cause is ongoing.
