A brawl erupted outside a pub after a group of men were seen arguing inside the pub.

The incident happened at The Last Post, in Weston Road, Southend, last Friday night at around 9.30pm.

Witnesses told the Echo the two men had a heated exchange before becoming involved in a physical fight.

A witness, who asked not to be named, said: "I was just standing by the counter waiting for my drink, and there were two men arguing about something.

"They then started throwing bags at each other, they knocked over a couple of beer bottles, chairs and a table. Luckily security guards came to sort them out and took them outside.

"It was a strange fight, normally you see punches being thrown."

Another witness, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: "They were very loud. I saw a crowd of people gathering by the seats near the entrance of the pub and it was two men arguing and fighting. It was scary."

Bouncers were quick to take control of the situation. They blocked the entrance to prevent pub visitors from stepping outside into danger while ensuring them the situation was under control.

Pub staff members quickly cleaned up the mess while onlookers were shaken up by the incident.

However, the men continued their confrontation outside of the pub. Several security guards immediately dashed out to restrain them.

Kate Fynes, 28, of Victoria Road, Southend, was with her friends when she saw the fight.

She said: "We were outside the Last Post and there was a big group of lads having some kind of disagreement. They were shouting and swearing at each other.

"Then, all of a sudden, they started hitting each other and brawling in the street. It was unnerving and very scary to watch.

"It looked like they had a few too many drinks. One of them also approached onlookers, it looked like he was trying to scare them off from looking.

"Thankfully the bouncers were quick to come out and separated them and that was it."

A member of staff confirmed that the incident happened and security guards managed to resolve the situation. The manager was not available for a comment.
