Work is progressing well for Basildon's new market.

The market is being moved from Market Pavement to St Martin’s Square.

The market will include 46 permanent kiosks and 48 pop-up stalls, compared to about 40 stalls in its current location.

The relocation of the market to St Martin’s Square will pave the way for a major redevelopment of Basildon town centre.

It will be followed by works to St Martin’s Gardens and improvements to the area of the bell tower and church car park.

These works will complete the green link from the town centre to Gloucester Park via the new pedestrian crossing and boulevard.

Once the market moves to its new location, South Essex College will start construction of their new state-of-the-art college building in the vacated Market Square, which is due to be ready by September 2018.

Some upset was caused after the trees in the centre were cut down to make way for an access road.
