A MAN has been charged with causing the death of a cyclist.

Stephen Wightwick, 48, died after a crash between a lorry and a cyclist in Buckhurst Hill in the early hours of December 1, 2016.

The driver of the lorry failed to stop at the scene but officers later found it in a compound in Basildon.

Justyn Ransley, 37, of Cunningham Close, Shoebury, was arrested later at his home.

He has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident.

The page, set up by family friend Sarah Ward-Kaye, has already raised more than £6,500 to cover funeral costs.

He is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on September 27.

Following his death, friends and family set up a fundraising page for Mr Wightwick's family. One friend said Mr Wightwick’s death had caused “such shock locally”.

He was a former Daily Mirror researcher and Royal Mail worker who had a passion for football, cricket, music and cooking.
