Members of the successful Save Southend A&E campaign have continued their crusade to save the NHS.

Those involved in the Save Southend A&E campaign have teamed up with singer songwriter Stephen Colyer, to release ‘Save our NHS’, on YouTube to raise awareness.

Mike Fieldhouse, secretary of the campaign, said: “This idea came out of the blue. Stephen approached me to put a song together about the NHS.

“It’s a great little song, it’s very catchy and pertinent.

“It was recorded three weeks ago.

“We also put the video on Facebook and Twitter and we have lots of positive responses.”

He added the social media campaign aims to reach a different and wider audience.

He said: “We hope to raise awareness about the plight of the NHS and also give hope and encouragement to the huge numbers of people elsewhere in the country who are battling plans to cut their health services in their local areas.

“The government is privatising our services stealthily and there are cuts to social care. We’re hugely underfunded.” Mr Fieldhouse said the team has been invited by other campaign groups across the country to deliver talks on how to carry out a successful campaign.
