A man was punched in the face by two scooter riders after they followed and kicked his car.

The 52-year-old victim from Basildon was driving a grey Renault Megane in the High Street sometime between 5.10pm and 5.15pm on Wednesday, April 19 when a scooter rider kicked the car several times, causing dents and kicking the wing mirror off.

Further up the street, the car was in stationary traffic at the Radford Way junction, near Billericay train station, and the rider continued to kick the car. A second scooter rider then pulled in front of the car.

The victim got out to speak to them and he was punched in the face by one of the riders. The scooters, which had earlier been riding in convoy with a third, then rode off.

Investigating officer Pc Michael Papaiacovou said: “This incident happened during rush hour in the middle of the town centre and there were a considerable amount of traffic and pedestrians around at the time.

“I am appealing for witnesses who saw the assault, or three scooters being ridden aggressively and erratically in the High Street shortly beforehand. They were last seen driving off towards Stock Road.”

One of the suspects was described as white, aged between 17 and 25, and wore a red crash helmet over a ski mask and black clothes.

The second was white, aged between 17 and 25 and about 5ft 10ins tall. He wore a black crash helmet over a black ski mask and rode a black scooter.
