STUDENTS baked up a storm to raise £160.45 for a the St Luke's Hospice.

The youngsters, from the Stanford and Corringham Sixth Form Centre, baked cakes and sold them to classmates and visitors as well as selling Christmas merchandise, for the hospice, which provides specialist palliative and end of life care to people in the Basildon and Thurrock area.

The four students behind the fundraising, Sam Green, Chloe Street, Katie Sparks and Maddie Price, have now handed a cheque to Neil Speight, St Luke’s Schools Liaison fundraiser.

He said: “We are very grateful to the students at the Sixth Form Centre and adjacent Gable Hall School and all the staff who supported them.

"Every penny counts and over the years the students at Gable Hall and the Sixth Form have raised more than £11,000 for the hospice which is an amazing achievement and shows that young people really do care for others.

"Their efforts make a real difference and support the many varied and vital services we offer to the community.”
