A GROUP of Year 5 pupils are having an exciting first taste of secondary school during special science sessions at Cornelius Vermuyden School.

The youngsters, from schools across Canvey, were invited to the school in Dinant Avenue for some hands on Science master classes.

Nadia Ounsain, lead practioner at the school, said: “Our Year 5 scientists were dressed for the occasion in their lab coats and took part in some high level scientific investigations.

“Tackling the science behind the gravitational potential energy of a rollercoaster to how Electromagnets are made were just two of the activities; there was also the opportunity for the scientists to use the Bunsen burners and measure the energy demands of their own bodies.

“The science department were blown away by the high level of scientific skills on show. Well done Year 5.”
