A FATHER-of-two who has styled the hair of celebrities all over the world has returned to his roots to get back to basics.

Aaron Dorn, 38, has worked with Hollywood stars including Tom Hardy and Harry Potter actor Rupert Grint.

After ten years of jetsetting, he has now come back to Southend to work in a salon.

The hairdresser, of Hermitage Road, in Westcliff, said: “I have worked in every facet of the industry from TV and film to music videos, campaigns and fashion shows.

“The thing I am most proud of is shooting a campaign on the streets of London when the riots happened. We were still filming while shops were closing and boarding the windows up. It was an intense atmosphere and really bizarre trying to stay creative while everything was happening around us. The video had seven million hits on YouTube.”

Mr Dorn decided to train as a hairdresser in 2000.

He said: “Lots of my friends, like Lee Stafford, were in the industry and very successful. I was a computer programmer at the time but never had the excitement of my job like they had – which is what gravitated me towards it.”

Two years later he found himself working at London Fashion Week and was instantly hooked.

He said: “It was so intense and I was dropped in the deep end, but it all started from there. I did more shows, built a portfolio up and got myself an agent.”

Since then, Mr Dorn has shot commercials for Baileys, worked on Hollywood film sets including for Fury and Florence Foster Jenkins, and styled hair for supermodels including Rosie Huntington-Whitley and Lily Cole.

He said: “I don’t really get star struck. The closest I have come is when I was doing the hair for Theo Walcott’s wife. We were nearly finished when he came to pick her up, but I actually forgot about the shoot. I am an Arsenal fan so I just stopped and started shooting questions at him, it was really great.

“I did Tom Hardy’s hair before he was really famous - when he was filming RocknRolla. I also did Matt King.

“Tom has by far been the most impressive celebrity I have worked with, not because of his fame but because of his persona – he is so warm and accommodating. We’d also both just had babies so we really hit it off.”

Mr Dorn now works in Stark Salon, in The Ridgeway, Chalkwell which is open Monday to Saturday.

He added: “My career took me around the world, but Southend has always been my home. My kids need someone around now and the salon gives me enough flexibility.”
