A woman and dog have been saved from a house fire.
Firefighters were called to the house in Ryedene Place, Basildon, at about 1.20am today.
When crews arrived they reported that the front door and surrounding frame was alight.
Firefighters had extinguished the fire by 1:52am and recused a woman and a dog from the property.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, at this stage it is thought to have been started deliberately.
The house has been severely damaged by smoke.
