POPPY appeal volunteers borrowed a council’s cash counting machine to count up more than £34k in donations.
Royal British Legion volunteers in Rayleigh and Rochford used Rochford Council’s machine in a bid to speed up the process- after taking two weeks to count up £25k the previous year.
The machine is usually used by the transport department.
Council leader Terry Cutmore, said: “I’m delighted that yet again we are able to offer our cash counting machines to the Royal British Legion to help count the generous donations collected in our district for the Poppy Appeal.
“Every year volunteers work tirelessly to collect vast amounts of money so by using the council’s cash sorter and with assistance from staff - Rochford Council can help to save many hours of counting.”
Volunteers are still counting the donations and will announce the full amount in due course.
