A COUNCIL is set to transfer land earmarked for a shopping centre’s major revamp.
Basildon Council’s cabinet backed plans to hand over land owned by the authority that will be used in the redevelopment of The Laindon Shopping Centre to Swan Housing Association.
Under the terms of the deal, the parcels of land will be transferred to the housing association subject to the approval of the planning application and the required changes to the highway.
Last month, Swan gave a glimpse of its plans to transform the precinct in its planning application.
The project proposes to build a new shopping centre including a new health centre, 86 houses and 138 flats made up of one, two, three and four bedroom homes.
Phil Turner, Leader of Basildon Council said: “The council has no current plans for the land and are pleased that through the transfer to Swan Housing Association, they will be able to push forward with their redevelopment plans.”
The proposals will now be presented for approval by members at council meeting on December 15.
A decision on the planning application is expected to be received in spring 2017.
