A MAN who was stabbed several times in a frenzied attack in Southend town centre is still in a “serious but stable” condition in hospital.

The 34-year-old is believed to have been attacked in Napier Avenue or College Way, close to the University of Essex’s accommodation block.

He was stabbed multiple times in his upper legs, back and buttocks at about 11.15pm on Sunday.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “He was taken to hospital in London for treatment and his injuries are very serious but not thought to be life-threatening.

“It is believed the attack took place in Napier Avenue. Numerous lines of enquiry are being pursued by detectives.

“No suspect description has been confirmed yet and police urge anyone who was in the area between 10pm and midnight on Sunday evening with any information to contact Rayleigh CID on 101.”
