THE devastated family of a dad-of-four who died suddenly at his home in Westcliff have described him as a loving man with a “heart of gold”.

David Giles, 33, was found collapsed at the top of his stairs in London Road, Westcliff at about 7pm on Saturday.

The alarm was raised and paramedics scrambled to his home but despite the best efforts of the crews, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Essex Police are currently treating the death as unexplained but there were no suspicious circumstances.

His mum Tina, 61, who lives in Lyndhurst Road, Corringham, said: “He was lovely.

“He was my first born and he was a brilliant son.

“He loved his four girls and he really loved his family.

“He had a heart of gold and I loved him to bits.

“His three brothers are devastated.”

She added that the family are still unsure of how David died but claimed that officers told her sons that it was a “tragic accident”.

She said: “He was found at the top of his stairs with a little bit of blood coming out of his nose.

“We don’t know what happened at all.”

David was born in Dagenham and later moved to Pitsea, where he attended Chalvedon School, which closed in 2009.

When he left school, he joined the Paratroopers but had to leave when he developed knee injuries.

He then became a builder and was working as a builder and fitted bathrooms.

He had only recently moved to Westcliff in the last couple of months.

Stepdad Paul Giles, who adopted David when he was just four, said both him and his wife were staying with friends in Buckinghamshire when they were given the terrible news.

He said: “He was a fun loving guy.

“He had a very large circle of friends.

“He was just an absolutely brilliant person - a real family man.

“Everyone that knew him, absolutely loved David.

“We are all grieving, we have lost out son.

“It’s just an awful tragedy, it’s so unfair.”

An Essex Police spokesman said: “Police were contacted by the ambulance service just after 7pm on Saturday with reports of a man found injured at a property in London Road, Westcliff.

“The local man was sadly pronounced death at the scene.

“His death is being treated as unexplained, however, there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a file will be provided to the coroner in due course.”

Police would not confirm specifically what injuries the man suffered.
