TWO of the hottest couples on TV relived their childhood memories as they spent the afternoon on Southend seafront.

Crowds gathered as The Only Way is Essex favourites James Lock, Danni Armstrong, Megan McKenna and Pete Wicks filmed scenes for the reality show.

The were seen sipping frozen drinks outside Pebbles One, on Marine Parade.

Paul Thompson, who owns the cafe, had the chance to meet the stars during their visit.

He said: “They were filming on the beach and came to the kiosk for some slush puppies and a bit of filming. They were talking about their childhood memories of visiting Southend seafront.

“There was quite a crowd there, people were wanting autographs and photos, there were about 30 or 40 people at one point.”

The seafront has become a haven for famous faces, with Eastenders, Fast and Furious and Jamie Oliver all filming in Southend in recent years.

Mr Thompson said filming is good for tourism in the town.

He added: “It’s good for the seafront, a good bit of publicity. Towie has a big following nationwide and the show is very up and coming.

Pete Wicks shared a picture of the double date on Twitter, adding: “Beaut day at the seaside.”

Ann Holland, councillor responsible for culture, tourism and the economy, said Southend’s regular TV appearances are a good advert for the town.

She said: “It’s really good. It can only bring more visitors to Southend and to think that the film companies want to come here is kudos for us so I am really pleased about that. It is definitely good for Southend.”

Towie, known in its 18th series, is shown on ITV Be every Sunday and Wednesday evening.
