AN MP has welcomed the appointment of a new college principal, and is hoping to engage more of its students in politics.

Rebecca Harris, Tory MP for Castle Point, welcomed the arrival of Dan Pearson, who took over the reigns as Principal and Chief Executive at Seevic College, in Runnymede Chase, in Benfleet last month.

Mrs Harris said: “I was delighted to formally welcome Dan to his role.

“We had a very good meeting where I heard his plans to make Seevic an even better college than it already is. I assured him of my continued commitment to supporting the college.”

Having worked with Seevic on a number of occasions, including a recent EU Referendum Hustings, Rebecca highlighted additional ways that she could help its students in the future.

With the knowledge that the college offers all of its vocational students work experience on their courses, Rebecca was keen to get involved.

Mr Pearson, who working across several colleges in London, Kent and Hertfordshire, says he is delighted Mrs Harris is prepared to offer placements in Parliament.

He said: “It was reassuring to learn how positive Rebecca is about supporting both the college’s ambitions and its students moving forward.”

“I was delighted with the offer of work placements for our students to work alongside Rebecca in order to get a valuable insight into the work of Parliament.”

Mr Pearson continued: “I want to make sure students are leaving college with the skills employers want.

“I look forward to work with Rebecca in the future to ensure that Seevic remains a top provider of high quality study for the communities of Essex.”
