A COUNCIL is calling on the public to vote for staff who have made outstanding contributions to the community.

Nominations for Basildon Council’s Improving Lives Award, a scheme that recognises the authority’s hard working staff, are now open to residents.

Chief executive of Basildon Council, Bala Mahendran, said: “We value the brilliant work our staff do on a daily basis and the staff awards are a way of recognising their commitment and hard work for the community.

“I am pleased we are able to continue to acknowledge and appreciate our staff through the awards. This is made possible with the support of residents, local press and businesses.”

Last year’s winner was Grant Taylor, who works supporting community groups around the borough.

He offers a range of support, including employment skills courses, a job club and computer classes, from a cafe in Wickford Memorial Park.

Nominations, open until March 4 at 5pm, can be for any member of staff or team.

They can be made by emailing angela.savage@basildon.gov.uk or via the reception at the Basildon Centre in St Martin’s Square.
