SCHOOL pupils travelled to Kenya for the adventure of a lifetime.

Eight students from Beauchamps High School, in Beauchamps Drive, Wickford, visited the African country as part of the World Challenge expedition.

Supported by professional guides and two teachers, the group completed a gruelling climb to reach Point Lenana, at the top of Mount Kenya.

They battled hail and a thunderstorm, very narrow paths, and dangerously steep drops.

During the three week trip, the youngsters also spent time in a primary school, teaching children and building foundations for new dormitories.

Headteacher Bob Hodges said: "World Challenge really builds resilience in students. It raises the bar in terms of physical fitness, communication, teamwork and organisation. These are all highly valuable life skills which students can draw on in future life.

"Finally, engaging with other children and building foundations for a primary school has created life changing opportunities for those children in Kenya. This has been an incredible experience for our students."
