BUS services aimed at shoppers are being dropped due to insufficient demand.

Arriva is to stop running the 6A between Belfairs and Leigh on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the 18, which links Leigh, Hockley, Hawkwell and Ashingdon with the Tesco Extra store on Princes Avenue, Southend, on Fridays.

The Sunday route of the One service, which runs between Southend and Rayleigh, will be extended through Southchurch, Bournes Green, Thorpe Bay and Shoebury.

The change will provide an additional half-hourly service to the area, matching its weekday routing.

The weekday timetable will be tweaked to allow extra time over sections where buses are regularly delayed, in order to improve reliability while retaining the ten-minute frequency for the main part of the day.

The 4/4A to Great Wakering and Landwick, 5 to Basildon, 7/8 and 9 between Shoebury and Rayleigh and the 29 between Belfairs and Temple Sutton will all have minor changes to their scheduled timings to help keep buses on time.

Frequencies on these routes will also remain at existing levels.

All changes will come into effect from Sunday, August 9.
